Prognostic Value of Inflammatory Biomarkers (CRP, IL-6, TNF-α) for Cardiovascular Complications in Patients with Metabolic Syndrome.
Journal of chemical health risks · 2026
Abstract
Metabolic syndrome is a multifactorial disorder characterized by obesity, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and chronic low-grade inflammation, substantially increasing the risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Persistent activation of inflammatory pathways contributes to endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerotic plaque formation, vascular remodeling, and myocardial injury. Inflammatory biomarkers, particularly C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), have emerged as valuable indicators of systemic inflammation and predictors of adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Elevated concentrations of these biomarkers are associated with accelerated atherosclerosis, increased incidence of myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, and cardiovascular death. Integration of inflammatory biomarker assessment with traditional cardiovascular risk factors enhances early identification of high-risk individuals and supports personalized prevention strategies. Contemporary therapeutic approaches emphasize intensive management of metabolic abnormalities, lifestyle modification, anti-inflammatory interventions, lipid-lowering therapy, and optimization of cardiometabolic risk factors. The combined evaluation of CRP, IL-6, and TNF-α provides important prognostic information and may facilitate individualized clinical decision-making. Biomarker-guided risk assessment represents a promising component of precision cardiovascular medicine for patients with metabolic syndrome. https://doi.org/10.52783/jchr.v16.i4.15660
